KISS ME!

MEN, GET YOUR FISTS READY TO PUMP; WOMEN, LEAVE YOUR BRAS AT HOME! KISS’S HOTTEST SHOW ON EARTH TOUR COMES TO THE 757.

By Kim Cuachon-Haugh

Imagine a dark stage as the fog gently rolls in from both sides. A single spotlight shoots straight down revealing the iconic lightning bolt writing that spells K-I-S-S. A familiar base line plays and you start to utter the words “You gotta lose your mind in Detroit Rock City.”

Lose your mind and yourself at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater with KISS. Party like it’s 1979 because the group has not lost its valor. The music will rock your soul and shoot nostalgia up your spine with smash hits “Detroit Rock City” and “Rock and Roll All Nite” along with other favorites.

The last time we got our taste of KISS was in 2004 when the band recorded that very concert during their Rock the Nation tour. After six years, the band is “very excited to be coming to Virginia Beach,” according to their rep. This highly anticipated show is sure to come with all the smoke bombs, fire, and face paint that blends synonymously with the band—Gene Simmons’ tongue included.

KISS’ eleven year recording hiatus created Sonic Boom last year, produced by Paul Stanley. Stanley commented on the album in an earlier interview saying that “the band has never been better…it lives up to everything we’ve done before.” He added that the band is great live, and the record shows “that [they] have the goods to do this for however long it takes.” Stanley partnered with Walmart to seal the album with a kiss with an added 15 re-recorded tracks and concert dvd from Argentina.

The band has recently been nominated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; yet another milestone for the group, who modestly began back in 1972 as New York-based rock and roll band Wicked Lester. Gene Simmons, in an earlier interview, humbly expressed KISS’ gratitude but pointed out that “[their] fans number in the millions and those are the only awards that are important, the KISS Army (the group’s loyal fan base), baby!”

KISS will be performing at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater, 3550 Cellar Door Way on Thursday, August 26 at 8 p.m. Please visit www.kissonline.com for more information and to buy your tickets and packages. HRM
